As you likely know from the news by now, cyclone Ita started the day as
a cat three this morning (Thursday), then turned into a cat four and then quickly
into a cat five.
I can not believe where we are only four days after our fun boat ride
on Annan River last Sunday.

CATEGORY FIVE AND OUR STORY SO FAR
I am gobsmacked at what has happened
during the past few days.
On last Sunday we were having a fun day on Annan River, taking the boat
pics of wild crocs and fishing.
Back home that night I did my usual
cyclone check online, not expecting much but April is still the
When I saw Ita, (realising it
had been around the whole day we were on the Annan), when I saw it as a
cat one and predicted to become a cat three, when I saw its location
and its direction - I was in a shock.
I would much rather we have a cyclone in the level with us than north
of us, because they too often do that southwards movement towards the
end of their track.
I said this is not looking good, it will be a cat five and we will end up in it.
I may have missed some, but from my experience I don't remember seeing
a cyclone ending up as
a cat four - for some reason once they are cat
four they do turn into a cat five.
And all the coming days were only confirming it all more and more.
Four days after finding out about Ita
we are having all our outdoor furniture and everything else that was in
the yard - that fitted through the door - inside the house, it's almost
impossible to move around inside, we have our windows taped, cyclone
kits prepared, the boat floor filled with water and tied up, the car
and the caravan hooked up and tied up...
And we only finished now - 1am into the Friday 11 of April.
I did not even have the time to eat (or appetite to tell you the
truth), or write the newsletter about Ita turning into the most scary
cat five earlier today.
It is mind boggling. There are
cyclones and there are cyclones. I was close enough to Larry and Yasi
happened, but I have never
been this close to being in the eye of a Cat Five.
We can only see what tomorrow brings and I will keep you updated at the
We do have generators and I will be able to finalise the price updates
in the Destination Guide even if we loose the roof.
Good luck to us!!!
