Cape York News #075 - CREB Track Open, Bypass Road Report, No More Destination Guide Updates in 2018
June 01, 2018

Hi Everyone,

Yes - these newsletters were always irregular, so that's why a newsletter a week after the last one!

While the usual aim is to get one out once a month - if something 'big' happens like the CREB Track opens two months early - I am not going to wait until the next month to tell you :-)

Below is also a report from Bypass Roads, and - the Destination Guide feedback.

=============================================

In This Issue
:

• CREB Track Open

• Bypass Road Report

• No More Updates in the Destination Guide in 2018

• Feedback Always Welcome

=============================================

CREB TRACK IS OPEN

So while in most years I write the CREB Track opening into a newsletter in July or even August (and even have its late opening noted in the book) - the track actually, and very surprisingly, opened in late May this year!

Sorry that some wrong-doers have made this needing a mention: These newsletters are subject to the Law of Copyright - the only way to legally spread them is a link to this page or a proper Facebook share (cropping text and photos out of it to use them to build one's own Facebook post is ILLEGAL).

The council obviously tries to open this track as early as they can each year, but being in the Wet Tropics, it is not always so easily done.

When they manage to open it depends on the recent weather and how wet the (late) wet season was, and definitely if there were any cyclones that year (Cyclone Ita and Cyclone Nathan definitely delayed the track's opening by many months in 2014 and 2015).

ROAD REPORT - BYPASS ROADS

We have also been down the Bypass Roads, so here is a little report about their current condition.

The Southern Bypass has some sections that can still be wet, mainly around the Captain Billy turnoff - it often rains in that area.

Both southern and northern Bypass are mostly pretty smooth with very little corrugation - as always in the beginning of the season.

And there is always that one exception - the northern end of the Northern Bypass, just south of Jardine Ferry, has the worst corrugations, as you often find also in the other times of the year.

NO MORE UPDATES IN THE DESTINATION GUIDE
IN 2018

And finally - if you are coming up this year, it's a brilliant time to grab a copy of the Destination Guide :-)

There will be no more updates this year, and I am hearing back from lots of people about how happy they are with it.

While I have not had the time yet to put in the 2018 feedback, in the below link is what people have said in the years before:

And there is also feedback on the sales page:

It always makes my day and warms my heart, as I choose to write about one place that I know inside out (instead of raking in from covering many destinations but not really knowing the ins and outs).

The living AND travelling it, and always putting in the hours to do everything properly, is what makes it unique and in-depth.

Remember there are also the Doggie and the Caravan Guide with their own local detail, both found inside the full Destination Guide :-)

In case you have an older version of the full Destination Guide (as the Doggie Guide is only in there since 2017 and the Caravan Guide since 2018 and if you want to get one or both of these), or if you simply have not updated your Destination Guide - you better travel with the latest one, so let me know and I will send you the latest version :-)

FEEDBACK ALWAYS WELCOME

I really appreciate any kind of feedback on the Destination Guide.

Please let me know if you enjoyed it while planning before the trip, and while using the information once on the trip.

If you get any questions about anything, please feel welcome to contact me.

That's all for this time - happy planning, and happy travels to those on the road!!

Have a great day :-)

Katrin.

P.S. If you cannot see the photo banner in the top of this page, instead of photos you only see photo texts, and instead of links you see url addresses throughout the text, you are using email software that only reads text. Consider getting an email account with Yahoo or others that can read HTML (and remember to change your email address, which can be done in the end of every newsletter.
