There may be only one more thing you need, and that is good area maps. HEMA maps are the best ones in Australia and the ones that I use myself. They are the most comprehensive and detailed maps that you find. Here is a page with some great looking Cape York posters. On the poster here is the famous Palm Cockatoo - found nowhere else in Australia. They can be hard to see and even harder to get photos of. I have hardly ever seen a better photo of a "palmie" than the one on this poster.

Cape York Wilderness by The Wilderness Society - a non-profit Australian Government organisation that aims to protect and promote wilderness. Being one of the last frontiers that escapes the large-scale development, Cape York is of course an area that needs protection.
Cape York Climate by Australian Bureau of Meteorology. Monthly statistics on temperatures, rainfall, humidity, amount of sunny days etc. Gives you an idea about what months are hottest, wettest and sunniest.
Trip Planner by RACQ. RACQ is a Queensland-based insurance company that also provides roadside assistance. If you are with their insurance, they will come and pick you up and take your vehicle home should it break down. But what many people don't know is that they will come and pick you up and take your vehicle home even if you're not with them. All they ask is to join their insurance and if you are in trouble, it may be well worth the price. Their 24hrs number is 131 905. Put it into your phone book, it may become handy.
Interactive Maps by Google. Their maps are not only interactive - you can also find out about road distances and detailed trip descriptions on between two destinations.
