Car freight from Brisbane to Cairns or Townsville?

by Amy
(Brisbane, Qld)

Hi,

We're planning a trip for next year, and had intended to send our 4x4 to Townsville or Cairns on the Sunlander motorail. We've been advised by Queensland Rail that the Sunlander will cease operating from December this year and will be replaced with a passenger only tilt train.

I've contacted a few car freight companies to see if they would transport our 4x4, but all so far have strict policy that the vehicle must be completely empty of personal items.

Has anyone else transported their vehicle or have any ideas as to what other arrangements might work?

Thanks in advance,

Amy

Car transport + personal belongings

'Melcrest' transport company allow you to have personal belongings in your car up to 150kg. It adds an extra $150 to the cost. I'm moving my car with personal belongings from Townsville to Brisbane for approximately $550 (depot to depot).
