New Mapoon

New Mapoon is an Aboriginal community in Cape York.

It is about half way between the Islander communities Bamaga and Seisia.

It is where the people of Old Mapoon, north of Weipa, were moved when bauxite was discovered and the mining activity started in and around Weipa.

There is a general store and a takeaway; and the Ice, Bait and Tackle shop - the only place up here that sells fishing and camping gear.
