Weipa Fishing
Weipa fishing is
some of the best
the whole Cape York.
Anywhere you watch, there is somebody fishing - it is one of the most popular things to do, both for locals and travellers.
And fishing is great up here. You can catch queenfish, grunter, barramundi, salmon, cod, snapper, mangrove jack, trevally and spanish mackerel to name some more common species.
As elsewhere, fishing is better from a boat, and there are places to hire one. There are boat ramps at Evans Landing, Rocky Point, Mission River Bridge and Andoom Creek Bridge.

Some of the best spots include the wharf in Evans Landing,

Rocky Point (near the boat ramp), Mission River (especially under the bridge), and Andoom Creek (near the bridge).

Other good places are Lorim Point, Gonbung Point,

And north of Mission River, Red Beach is a good place.
